Andrew and Tristan Tate Arrested by U.S. Marshals in Miami as Britain Seeks Their Extradition on Rape and Trafficking Charges

Andrew Tate, the 39-year-old social media provocateur who built a global following preaching hyper-masculinity, was arrested alongside his brother Tristan in Miami over the weekend, the U.S. Marshals Service said, as the United Kingdom moves to extradite the pair on an array of rape and human-trafficking charges.

The brothers were taken into custody Saturday on a sealed warrant, detained by federal agents in the heart of Miami as they attended a combat-sports event. The arrests followed a British investigation into sexual offenses reported by seven alleged victims, and mark the most serious legal jeopardy the Tates have faced since a separate criminal case in Romania.

Court filings in Britain lay out a sprawling indictment. Andrew Tate faces 42 charges, including rape, human trafficking, producing indecent images of a child and assault. Tristan Tate faces 17 charges, among them sexual assault, rape and trafficking. The alleged offenses span a seven-year window, from July 2010 to August 2017, and predate the brothers' rise to online fame.

Raised in Britain and holding dual U.S. and U.K. citizenship, the Tates relocated to Florida in February 2025 after Romanian authorities lifted travel restrictions tied to a long-running trafficking case there. Their arrival in the United States had complicated British efforts to bring them before a court, and Saturday's detention on American soil represents a significant step for prosecutors in England, who have signaled for months that they intended to pursue extradition.

The brothers' attorney, Joseph McBride, insisted his clients had done nothing wrong. "They are innocent," McBride said in a statement, adding: "We are confident that once a competent judge sees the facts, and once the Department of Justice confronts this egregious abuse of its own authority, Andrew and Tristan Tate will walk free."

Andrew Tate, a former professional kickboxer, has amassed millions of followers by marketing a brand of aggressive self-improvement and open contempt for feminism, drawing both a devoted young male audience and sustained criticism from women's-rights groups. He first gained public attention after a brief appearance on a British reality television show in 2016, then built a sprawling online business selling courses on wealth and masculinity to young men around the world. In 2023, Romanian prosecutors charged the brothers with human trafficking and forming a criminal group, allegations they denied and that remain unresolved.

He has repeatedly denied wrongdoing across multiple jurisdictions, casting the cases against him as a coordinated, politically motivated attack on his views. An extradition hearing is expected in the coming weeks, where a federal judge will weigh whether the brothers can be sent to Britain to stand trial. If extradited and convicted, they could face lengthy prison terms in the United Kingdom.
