At Chicago O'Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Los Angeles International airports, security checkpoint wait times have regularly exceeded two hours on weekdays and three hours on weekends. Senate Majority Leader Thune's threat to cancel the Easter recess is a calculated political gamble. Markwayne Mullin to serve as DHS Secretary cleared committee by a single vote this week and is now before the full Senate, adding another layer of urgency: without a confirmed DHS secretary and with no funding deal in place, the department continues to operate in a state of deep institutional uncertainty. A vote on Mullin's confirmation is expected later this week regardless of whether the funding impasse is resolved.
